We are Alberta and we are energy. The world is looking to Alberta to supply growing demand, while developing our resources responsibly. Although new investment will take time to bear fruit, recent land sales point to greater investor focus. If we deliver on competitiveness, development and broad wealth creation will follow.
Industry is focusing on business—being more efficient, being better neighbours, continually improving environmental standards, building and keeping excellent employees, and getting good value for Alberta’s resources.
Our province is home to some of the most beautiful sights in the world. From the vast boreal forests to the peaks of the Rocky Mountains, our lush valleys and powerful rivers are iconic of Alberta and will be always be protected, restored and cherished.
With that in mind, industry performance focuses on responsible environmental and social outcomes, demonstrating improvements over time and ensuring credible regulatory oversight and transparency in measurement and reporting.
In more than 40 years, oil sands mining has disturbed about 662 square kilometres – about 0.02 per cent of Canada’s boreal forest. By law, all land must be fully reclaimed, the Athabasca River protected and air quality heavily monitored. In efforts to build stronger, mutually beneficial relationships, local communities and stakeholders are consulted in the development process to ensure that all voices are heard.
We recognize that the relationship among industry, government and Albertans has been strained in the past. That’s why initiatives like Alberta Is Energy are important – promoting open and honest discussions with all Albertans so that we can work together for a prosperous future.
